MMC 대신 Dr. Hirst는 보조제를 사용하지 않고 노출된 공막을 그대로 두는 ‘PERFECT’ 기법을 선도했다. 군날개 수술 후에 발생한 MMC-관련 stromalysis 에 대한 연구 3의 공동저자인 Dr.Lee 역시 Dr. Hirst 가 설명한, 변형된 ‘PERFECT’기법을 사용하고 있으며, 재발이 드물기 때문에 MMC 사용의 필요성을 느끼지 못한다고 하였다. “저는 개인적으로 MMC 를 일차 또는 재발 군날개에 사용하지 않습니다만, 중증 결막 섬유화가 동반되고 재발한 군날개에 사용하기를 고려하는 안과의사에게 잘못이 있다고 생각하지는 않습니다” 그가 보내온 의견이다. “MMC는 괴사성 공막염, 공막 괴사, 공막융해(melt), 그리고 공막 석회화와 연관을 보여왔기 때문에, 노출된 공막에 직접적으로 사용하지 않도록 항상 유의해야 합니다.” EWAP References 1.
