Abell and Vote 10 는 영국 국가 보건체계 하에서 수정체유화술의 비용이 펨토초 수술에 비해 8.7% 저렴 하다는 사실을 보고하였다. 뿐만 아니라 펨토초 수술은 더 저 렴하면서 정교한 신기술인 Zepto(My- nosys, Fremont, California) 등과 새로 운 경쟁을 이어 나가야 한다. 선호와 확신 Dr. Chee는 표준적인 증례의 경우 펨토초 수술과 수기 수정체유화술 사 이에 시력 회복 결과의 차이는 없다고 말했다. 펨토초 수술은 적은 내피세포 숫자, 수정체낭 섬유화, 크기가 큰 안구, 핵이 두껍고 단단한 백내장, 전방이 얕 은 안구, 수정체가 위치를 이탈한 경우, 정확한 절개가 필요한 경우 효과적이 다. 반면 진행성 녹내장, 작은 동공, 각 막혼탁, 거대한익상편, 결막이완, 협조 적이지 않은 환자, 비용 문제가 있는 경 우에는 부적절하다. 그러나 결국 최종 결정은, 주치의의 선호와 확신에 따라 이루어진다.
