Seeking ENLIGHTENMENT in Thailand’s ‘Rose of the North’ S tep away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded streets of Bang- kok, climb the hills of Northern Thailand; here you’ll find the Rose of the North, Chiang Mai—the “New City”, so named when it became the new capital of Lannathai, the Kingdom of a Mil- lion Rice Fields, in 1296; here in this ancient, storied city, the Asia- Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) seeks to bring its members to ENLIGHT- ENMENT. In partnership with the Royal College of Ophthalmolo- gists of Thailand (RCOPT), the 31st APACRS annual meeting will run from 19 to 21 July 2018 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai. As usual, the meeting offers the society’s signature streamlined yet comprehensive scientific program. APACRS MasterClasses The APACRS is once again offering attendees the opportunity to learn from the masters of cataract and refractive surgery with its popular series of MasterClasses. This year, the society will be holding 12 Mas- terClasses: Pediatric Cataract Sur- gery, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, Toric IOLs, IOL Fixation, Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery, Crosslinking, Phaco Chop, Corneal Endothelial Transplan- tation, Biometry, Intrastromal Refractive Surgery, Vitrectomy for Anterior Segment Surgeons, and Advanced Phaco. The MasterClasses will be held throughout the day on Thursday, 19 July 2018. Seeing past cataracts On the first day, much of the scientific program is dedicated to having attendees look beyond just cataract and refractive surgery, beginning with a session co-hosted by the Thai Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (TNOS) that asks, “Are You Sure It’s a Cataract?” Discussing neuroimaging for general ophthal- mologists, the session looks at neu- roophthalmological differentials to common symptoms such as blurry vision, headache, and double vi- sion. Thursday, 19 July 2018, 08:30 – 10:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 2. “Cataract Surgery and the Retina”, co-hosted by the Thai Retinal Society (TRS), discusses cataract surgery in the context of conditions such as retinal dystro- phy, intraocular tumors, and dia- betic macular edema. Thursday, 19 July 2018, 08:30 – 10:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 3. “Cataract Surgery in Uvei- tis”, co-hosted by the Thai Ocular Immunology and Inflammation Society (TOIS), discusses the man- agement of these cases from pre- to postop. Thursday, 19 July 2018, 10:30 – 12:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 2. A session co-hosted by the Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Society (POS) will discuss “Challenges of Pediatric Cataracts” (Thursday, 19 July 2018, 10:30 – 12:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 3) while a session co-hosted by the Thai Glaucoma Society (TGS) aims to teach attendees “How to Get Fantastic Cataract Results for Your Glaucoma Patients” (Thursday, 19 July 2018, 10:30 – 12:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 2) and a session co-host- ed by the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Society of Thailand (CRST) will delve into “Cataract Surgery with Concurrent Corneal Disease” (Thursday, 19 July 2018: 15:30 – 17:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 2). The day’s program is rounded out by sessions on optimizing outcomes—“Variety is the Spice of Life”, co-hosted by the “Bangla- desh Society of Cataract & Refrac- tive Surgery (BSCRS), Thursday, 19 July 2018, 13:30 – 15:10 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 3—and managing complications—“Karma”, a video symposium co-hosted by the Chi- nese Cataract Society (CCS), Thurs- day 19 July 2018, 15:30 – 17:00 hrs, Lanna Ballroom 3.
