10 EWAP JUNE 2021 Beyond 2020 – Progress to Perfection Virtual Meeting i l i C OVID-19 continues to ravage much of the world, with a new, more virulent surge having arisen—a year since it was declared a pandemic. Nevertheless, the human race, indefatigable, continues. Over that year, we had in our own homes-turned-workspaces and across the various episodes of quarantine and lockdown, learned that the technology is in place—has been, in fact, for a while—for another way of doing things. Making use of online meeting technology, the APACRS, for its 33rd annual meeting, is holding its first virtual meeting. Together with the Singapore National Eye Centre, which in turn is celebrating its 30th Anniversary, they offer an interactive environment in which its members will be brought up-to-date on ophthalmology’s continuing Progress to Perfection . 2021 APACRS LIM LECTURE The APACRS LIM Lecture is the highest honor conferred by the APACRS. This year, Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC, Prism Eye Institute, Canada will deliver a lecture on Approaching Complex Cataract and Anterior Segment Reconstruction immediately following the opening ceremony on Saturday, 31 July 2021, 13:00 – 13:55hrs (Singapore Time UTC+8). Dr. Ahmed is world- renowned for his skills and has been at the leading edge of novel treatments for glaucoma, cataract and lens implant surgery. He has done pioneering work in innovative glaucoma surgery, developing and coining the term minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) as a new genre of surgical approaches and devices. PROGRESS TO PERFECTION: TECHNIQUE VS. TECHNOLOGY A joint symposium of the made a significant difference to our phaco surgery or whether we are better off with “old fashioned” manual methods.
