Samaniego EyeWorld Asia-Pacific Senior Staff Writer B ali is famous the world over as a haven for travelers from all walks of life, a place where visitors can commune with nature, immerse themselves in a rich, vibrant culture, or simply take a break from the fast-paced modern world. The APACRS last came to Bali in 2004; this year, the society returns for its 29th annual meeting, inviting its members to “be inspired” by the island’s thriving culture, exotic tropical terrain, and famously gorgeous beaches. The APACRS once again offers its streamlined yet comprehensive scientific program, with a faculty consisting of some of the world’s most brilliant minds, the global ophthalmic community’s most inspiring members. A collaborative heart At the heart of the APACRS meeting is close collaboration with the various other regional and international societies representing the ophthalmic community. This year’s annual meeting is being organized in conjunction with the Indonesian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (INASCRS) and the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (IOA/PERDAMI). presbyopia. These range from multifocal IOLs to traditional pseudoaccommodative IOLs and, more recently, extended range of focus IOLs. Learning from the Masters Perhaps the most important session of the APACRS annual meeting is the APACRS LIM Lecture, established in honor of the society’s late founder, Prof. Arthur Lim. This year, the honor of delivering this prestigious lecture goes to Oliver Findl, MD, MBA, FEBO , Professor of Ophthalmology and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Hanusch Hospital, Vienna, founder and head of the Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery (VIROS). Prof. Findl will be giving his lecture on “Achieving Emmetropia with Lens Surgery – Still some way to go?” His talk will discuss how major advances in biometric measurements and a more thorough understanding of IOL power calculation has contributed to the achievement of better refractive outcomes in the context of the challenge of high patient expectations, with particular emphasis on the use of intraoperative measurements of the aphakic eye using wavefront sensors and OCT. In addition, APACRS is once again offering attendees the chance to learn from masters of cataract and refractive surgery with its popular series of MasterClasses. This year, in addition to sessions on manual small incision cataract surgery, IOL fixation, toric IOLs, biometry, pterygium surgery, preoperative diagnostics and imaging, and phakic IOLs, the society is offering five new sessions on femtorefractive procedures, vitrectomy for anterior segment surgeons, chopping and pre- chopping, glaucoma implants, and pediatric cataracts. Be inspired! The meeting, which runs from 27 to 30 July 2016, will be held In addition, the society’s collaboration with major international cataract and refractive surgery societies including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) culminates in the Combined Symposium of Cataract and Refractive Societies (CSCRS), a core part of the APACRS annual meeting’s scientific program that has also become a regular feature at the annual meetings of the society’s partners. At this year’s CSCRS, leading thinkers from the APACRS, ASCRS, and ESCRS will be revisiting all the options currently available to address
