The judges chose the second and third place teams, with the team from Europe/the Middle East taking home the bronze and the team from the Asia-Pacific taking the silver. Based on audience votes, the North American team came in first and took home gold. Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery president Honored Guest at 2016 ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress Symposium & Congress. At the ASCRS Opening General Session, she was honored for her contributions to ophthalmology. Dr. Bissen-Miyajima is department chair and professor of ophthalmology at Tokyo Dental College Suidobashi Hospital, Tokyo. She specializes in cataract and refractive surgery. Over her 20-year career, she has built a reputation as a skillful surgeon, well known around the globe as a major investigator for multifocal intraocular lenses and for leading the way in femtosecond laser- assisted cataract surgery. Dr. Bissen-Miyajima is a regular reviewer for several prestigious medical journals and holds memberships in many professional medical associations including the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, among others. She is president of the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, past president and 2013 Medal Awardee of the International Intraocular Implant Club, and she was the 2011 APACRS Lim Lecturer.
